Vocabulary

I helped design an experience targeted towards English teachers in the United States to help them teach vocabulary to their students and nudge them to use the platform more.

The core insight that informed these designs was that English teachers taught Vocabulary based on books. They would quiz their students based on the vocabulary in the chapter of the text they were currently reading in the class.

The experience collated the top 150 books that were taught in schools across the country and were presented to the Teacher in a separate flow.

The questions were generated using AI for each chapter across different D.O.K. (Depth of Knowledge) types.

Level 1 questions would test for knowledge and recall. Level 2 questions would have the sentences be used in a sentence and then their meaning would be asked. Level 3 would include antonyms, synonyms and fill in the blanks.

Teachers could also customize the number of words per quiz so that they had more control on how much time they wanted their students to partake in this activity.

Entry Points

Several contextual entry points were sprinkled across the product so that teachers could find this new flow.

On searches for ‘Vocabulary' or terms indicating vocabulary

On searches for a specific book

If a quiz was internally tagged as a vocabulary quiz, we would show this banner at the top.
